The Story Behind the Lens: Getting to Know Your Photographer

July 28th, 2026

Welcome to my little corner of the world, situated somewhere between the hustle of Albany and the tranquility of Catskill, in the charming town of Ravena. My home, nestled among verdant fields, with the occasional cow wandering by, is my little piece of paradise. It's here that I've found the perfect backdrop for my love of photography.

Photography is my profession, but it's also genuinely my hobby. When I'm not shooting for clients, I'm usually still out with a camera, drawn to flowers, animals, and landscapes, anything that holds still long enough to be studied. I'll admit I get a bit more experimental with light on my own time than I would during a portrait session or a wedding.

Less expected, perhaps: I also work as a marketing manager for an association, helping businesses and individuals think through their own marketing. It's a role I take seriously, and staying current on marketing trends has, if anything, made me sharper as a photographer.

There's a third thread running through all of this, too: graphic design. In 2016, I graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with a degree in design, with a focus on layout and branding. Even back in school, I was weaving photography into my design work, using my own images throughout my class projects instead of stock photos. It's funny looking back; I didn't realize at the time that I was already building the foundation for how I'd eventually work.

Now, over a decade later, those three paths (photography, marketing, and design) cross daily. I love working with individuals to create imagery that blends seamlessly into their overall marketing strategy, whether that's web-ready files ready to upload straight to a website or a more unique, custom design that helps tell their story. Having an eye for design means I'm not just handing off a photo; I'm thinking about how it will actually be used: the crop, the composition, the space it needs to leave for text or a logo, before I ever pick up the camera.

The origin story goes back further than most people would guess. It starts with a hot pink Fujifilm FinePix Z10 (7.2 megapixels, 3x optical zoom) given to me as a gift in the early 2000s. I brought that camera everywhere, including to a NYC Ballet performance at SPAC in 2010, during a stretch of my life devoted almost entirely to dance. I had no idea at the time that a small pink camera was setting the direction for everything that followed.

Fast forward to today, and I've spent the last seven years as the production photographer at Mac-Haydn Theatre in Chatham, photographing their seasonal shows, and countless concerts and events.

What began as a simple desire to remember a performance grew into a lasting appreciation for dance, theater, and music. It's not a path I could have predicted at fifteen, camera in hand, and I definitely couldn't have predicted that a design degree and a marketing career would end up woven in right alongside it.

That's the short version of how I got here: living and working in this corner of Upstate New York, doing the work I love. I'd be glad to help capture your moments, design your next project, or think through your marketing strategy as well.
